These Mahogany soprano ukuleles were inspired by a vintage 1920s Royal Hawaiian soprano ukulele.
As on the original the neck and body are joined together as the instrument is being built, with the body sides slotted into the heel of the neck and the back fitted last covering the heel joint. The more usual production method and the way I normally build ukulele is to make a separate neck and body and then join them together. The uke body has solid linings instead of the more commonly found kerfed lining strips.
Another feature of this style of ukulele is where normally the fretboard is raised above the body, on these it is on the same plane as the top. On the original Hawaiian built instruments this led to a very high action. I have overcome this by setting the neck back at a slight angle to achieve a more comfortable action of approximately 2.75mm at the 12th fret.
Along with these construction methods and light build these are the loudest soprano ukes I’ve built so far.
