Lesley Fowkes was the first customer outside my circle of friends to buy one of my ukuleles and since then she has become a real friend and we have spent happy times together at ukulele festivals and enjoyed visits to each other’s homes.
Lesley has recently been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND/ALS). The Motor Neurone Disease Association have been very helpful to Lesley and despite her condition she is as always full of zest and has started her own ‘Fight Back’ fund where the proceeds go to the MNDA. After speaking to Lesley I decided to build and auction a ukulele where the proceeds could be paid directly into her charity fund.
The auction is for a D J Morgan Ukuleles handmade Hawaiian Koa Soprano Ukulele and will run until 8pm GMT Sunday 26th August.
Details of the ukulele are as follows:
Body: Hawaiian Koa with African Walnut inlayed sound hole ring and curved back.
Neck: Spanish Cedar with a book matched Koa peg-head facing to the front and back.
Fretboard: Mgurure (Leadwood) with abalone fret inlays, white ABS side dots and corian nut.
Bridge: Mgurure with a corian saddle.
Tuners: Der Jung sprung friction.
Finish: Pore filled, satin.
I have set a low reserve price of £350 GBP and I will cover the postage costs. The winning bidder will be notified as soon as possible and I will then give them the details of the charity fund where to make the payment. All bids need to be emailed to . This is so I can easily keep track of the bids and should more than one person bid the same amount I can see who was first. On receiving a bid I will return an email of acknowledgement.
All the woods used on this Koa Soprano are CITES restriction free, so bidders from outside the UK are welcome. I will also cover international postage costs. If you are bidding from outside the UK please make your bid in £GBP.
Please send your best bid to email@example.com
Update: The ukulele raised over £500 for Lesley’s MNDA Fightback fund.
